The Board of Police Commission has authority over all members of the Police Department including the appointment, suspension or removal of the Chief of Police. The Commission also has the authority to approve appointments and promotions of officers as well as establish a selection process for the police department based on an eligibility list. The Commission has the authority to receive, investigate and resolve citizen complaints filed against sworn members of the Police Department.

Membership/Terms
The Board of Police Commissioners shall consist of five citizens who are residents of the Village, three of whom shall constitute a quorum. The Board consists of appointments made by the Village President with confirmation of the Village Board and serve on the Commission without compensation. The President shall annually, between the last Monday of April and the first Monday of May, appoint in writing, to be filed with the Secretary of the Commission, one member for a term of five years, subject to confirmation by the Board. No appointment shall be made which will result in more than three members of the Commission belonging to the same political party.
